A technician installing a car auto battery into a vehicle during a Mobile Car Auto Battery Replacement

What is Mobile Car Auto Battery Replacement?

Mobile Car Auto Battery replacement service is when a motorist has a problem with their vehicle repeatedly failing to start and they cannot rely on their car to start when they need it, they give a company like ours a call asking to come out and bring them a brand new battery and install it into their car and do any vehicle specific programming or more testing to see if anything else is wrong. There are several signs of a bad battery and some smart motorists are aware when their battery is on its last legs but most do not. Our customers typically contact us for a boost service or jumpstart service and we find that the battery does in fact need to be replaced due to one of the following conditions: Customer has had boost service more than 1-2 times in the last week, car was sitting at a location for 30 minutes or less with nothing on and still has died, vehicle sat for a week and is completely dead. All these previously stated conditions are warning signs, some are late warning signs (such as needing multiple boosts) and some are early warning signs (the car sat for a week and the battery is dead) that your battery cannot maintain its charge.

Our technicians are experts in zeroing in on exactly what the issue is when you give us a call. We will advise you, based on running through diagnostic steps over the phone, what exactly the problem is with your vehicle. Some customers, however, are very educated on what the problem is and just want a convenient option that doesn't involve going to a shop, sitting in the lobby for 2 hours painfully scrolling through their phone in an uncomfortable seat, while paying over $250 on average just to get a car battery done. At $30 Roadside, we cater to all customers located within Calgary, Alberta, who need a car, SUV, or truck battery.  Our services take on average less than  1 hour total for a battery installation from the moment you call us to the moment the battery is completely installed and your electrical system has been fully checked at whatever location you are. Our battery installation with delivery cost on average is less than any shop in Calgary, and we only install the correct battery for your vehicle, whereas shops are notorious for throwing whatever battery they have available on the shelf into your vehicle for convenience's sake.

An average Mobile Car Auto Battery service call starts with you giving us a call, we then determine what battery you need, and then deliver the battery to your location and install it for you, plus testing for any other issues with the charging system.  We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the BEST PRICE  on the market. Our batteries are sold at cost, meaning we make our money from the installation of the battery rather than by marking up the battery like other automotive repair shops do.  The average markup a repair shop or automotive parts retailer adds is anywhere from 30-40 dollars on each battery. We sell our batteries AT COST, meaning we make our money from the installation. The average customer who is not using our service and instead is going to an auto repair shop is paying anywhere from $70-$150 in markups because both the service and the battery are marked up 100% of the time. Our installation cost for a battery starts at just $40, and the battery is sold at cost to you, so stop paying retail prices today. Call us for a quote now!

Signs that your Car / Auto battery needs to be replaced.

The average standard for a car or auto battery is that it will last you about 3-5 years after purchase. In our expertise and time working in the cold Calgary winters in Alberta, we have found on average that batteries in most cars will start to degrade as early as 2 years and be at the end of their life by 2.5-3 years. Several factors go into how long a car battery will last you. Some of the factors that will determine how long a car battery will last include:

  • Storage of the vehicle (where is the car kept? Is it in a heated garage in the elements during the winter, or a non-heated garage)
  • The quality of the battery, is it a battery with very few cranking amps? Is it made very cheaply?
  • There is an issue with the vehicle's alternator and or charging system that caused the battery to prematurely wear out.
  • Was the correct battery installed in the first place (a lot of technicians and mechanics will install whatever battery is close enough, rather than the right battery, causing you issues down the line since the car needed a higher specification battery)

Once a car battery has started to go, it will give you several problems as well as signs that your battery is gone. One of the biggest signs is, of course, if the battery is dead and you require constant jumpstarts. Another big sign is that you left your car sitting for a week, and the car battery is dead. On average, a car battery can sit for up to 2 months without the battery dying. Your vehicle has built-in systems to engage the battery when it is sitting to make sure it does not die, even when you don't turn on the vehicle. The last major sign you can see is if you notice any of the signs on the image on your right; it typically means that the battery HAS to be changed.

At $30 Roadside, we have mechanics and technicians on the line waiting for your call, who will correctly diagnose your battery by asking you questions and collecting photographs if necessary to better understand the exact issue with your vehicle.

FAQs

Have a question? Please see below or give us a call.

  • How much does it cost to replace a car battery in Calgary?

The average cost to replace a car battery is between $120 to $400. Depending on the make/model of your vehicle, it can take up to an hour to change the battery, and newer vehicles require AGM batteries, which can cost over $300 for the battery alone.

  • Is a 5 year old car battery still good?

The average lifespan of a car battery is between 3-5 years. There are exceptional cases where a battery can last up to 6-7 years depending on how the vehicle is stored, how frequentely its driven, and the health of the vehicle's charging system. A vehicle battery with installation at home ranges between 150-300 for the average vehicle, and we recommend to get the best performance out of your vehicle especially in winter conditions that you replace your battery every 3-4 years.

  • Can a dead car battery be revived?

Yes, a dead car battery can be easily revived by jump-starting or boosting the car battery. However, if your battery is already over 3-4 years old and your vehicle needs to be boosted every time you turn it off, then you need to get a new car battery.

  • What drains a car battery when the car is off?

There are many different reasons a car battery can drain when the car is off, such as: something being left on (such as lights), something left open (trunk, doors, glove box), which causes interior ambient lights to stay on. Alternatively, you can have bigger electrical problems, such as a parasitic drain, where one of your modules or systems does not turn off correctly and continues to stay on even if the car is off.

  • Do I need to reprogram my car after battery replacement?

You only need to reprogram, register or code your vehicle battery for very few mass market vehicles, such as BMW, Volkswagen, and Audi models made after 2008. There are also some exotic vehicles, such as Porsche and newer Ford vehicles made after 2020, that require reprogramming.

  • How do I tell if it's my battery or alternator?

Try to boost or jumpstart your vehicle with another vehicle, and if you can boost the vehicle successfully and it does not turn off after you remove the cables then your alternator is fine and you likely just need a battery or to monitor what caused the battery to drain. In some rare cases, you may have more complex issues, such as an overcharging alternator.

  • How long can a car sit before the battery dies?

Most vehicles can tolerate being left sitting for 2-6 weeks, depending on the age and strength of the car battery. The car is always on, consuming power from the battery and only recharges when the car is running. If you leave a car with an old battery over 3 years old sitting for an extended period of time, it may be the case that it will no longer hold a charge, even if you boost it.

  • What is the average lifespan of a car battery?

The average lifespan of a car battery is 3-5 years old. Various factors such as: how often you drive, how often you leave your vehicle sitting, and the climate that you live in, are all important factors in determining how long your car battery will last.

  • What are signs of a dying battery?

    • The engine is slow to start
    • Headlights, dash lights, and instrument cluster lights are visibly dim.
    • The battery warning light is on while the vehicle is in operation.
    • The battery has blue or white fuzz on the connections or is bulging.
    • Repeatedly needing to boost the vehicle.
  • How often should I start my car to keep the battery charged in winter?

The golden rule to keeping your car battery charged in the winter is to drive every 48-72 hours for at least 30 minutes as this will keep the car battery charged by running the alternator. Starting the vehicle and idling does not provide enough power to fully charge the battery, as it requires higher engine rpm in order to provide significant enough power to charge it.
